High number of parish candidates

Almost double the amount of candidates have come forward for available seats on two parish councils in South Holland.

Both councils are up for re-election and have a particularly notable number of candidates.
For a total of 20 seats there are 38 people standing.
The Sutton Bridge Deserves Better Party has ten candidates standing against 12 independents.
Long Sutton has 15 candidates for a total of nine seats available on the parish council.
Both Long Sutton and Sutton Bridge councils have been at the centre of heated discussions recently.
Sutton Bridge had a vote of no confidence last month, triggered over plans for a new village pavilion.
The village’s annual assembly saw divisive proposals for the building behind the Curlew Centre.
The council had set-up a committee to spearhead the new-build off Bridge Road.
But the plan has also been labelled a ‘vanity project’ with a £1m price tag.
And Long Sutton parish council has been calling on the district authority to undertake a review over a planning application for a change of use for a building.
