HGV driver loses job after drink driving conviction

A 52-year-old HGV driver from Spalding was immediately sacked after being caught drink driving in his car.

Police received reports of a Ford Mondeo swerving in the road at about 8.50pm on March 9. They found the vehicle in Wallace Way, Boston, and driver Kazimierz Kiedrowicz was arrested after failing a roadside breath test.

He then gave an evidential reading of 93 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, two-and-a-half times the legal limit of 35.

At Boston Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, Kiedrowicz, who had no previous convictions, pleaded guilty to drink-driving.

Phillipa Chatterton said in mitigation that her client had been at a house party the previous night and had a drunk a lot into the early hours.

“He hadn’t driven during the day and then he was stopped at night having had two beers, which he told police about,” she added. “This would explain the reading being 93 but he is honest in saying he didn’t appreciate how long alcohol can stay in the system.

“He is quite clearly devastated to be appearing before the court and attracting his first criminal conviction.

“Unfortunately, he’s an HGV driver by trade and as soon as he was stopped for this offence he lost his employment.”

Kiedrowicz, of Green Lane, was banned for two years which can be cut with completion of a drink-driver rehabilitation course.

He was also fined £200 and told to pay £165 in costs and victim surcharge.
