UPDATE: Hayes named Minister for Security

UPDATE: John Hayes has been named as the new Minister of State for Security at the Home Office.

The announcement came from Prime Minister David Cameron’s office at 5pm on Monday.

Mr Hayes, who was Minister for Transport in the coalition government, will be the minister responsible for

  • international counter-terrorism
  • counter-terrorism operations

FRIDAY (10am): Newly re-elected MP John Hayes says he is ready to take up any role which the Prime Minister might ask him to do.

Mr Hayes was Minister of Transport in the coalition government, and is waiting to see if David Cameron wants him to continue in that role or offer him something else after the Conservatives’ shock overall majority success.

Yet he was insistent that his work in South Holland and The Deepings will always come first

Mr Hayes (56) told The Voice: “I’ll do whatever the Prime Minister wants me to do. I’ve always said my absolute priority is my work in the constituency.
“My work as a senior minister, as I have been, is something that I will treasure forever. But my continuing work in South Holland and The Deepings is my greatest pleasure.”
