Harrox remain on track in county cup

It’s full steam ahead for Moulton Harrox’s Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup bid as they booked a quarter-final slot by derailing Lincoln Moorlands Railway’s bid.

Goals from Ian Bradbury and Josh McGuire gave Moulton a 2-0 win over the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League challengers at Broad Lane.

Manager Bobby Patterson was delighted his players were able to topple one of the favourites for the competition.

“It was a really good performance, easily our best of the season so far,” he said. “It’s great to be in the quarter final and we’ll know our opponent on Friday.

“We do have to put it in context. It’s only one win and we need to put together three more wins to get the trophy.

“There’s still some tough sides in there including the likes of Grantham Development Academy but everyone will look at that result on Saturday and no-one will want to play us.

“All we can hope for is that we get drawn at home again.”

That will be Moulton’s next but one game after hosting Netherton on Saturday in a 2pm kick-off, due to not having a fixture next weekend and the Christmas break they won’t play again until the next round of the cup on January 8.

“It’s a bit of a gap and it’s not ideal, but everyone is in the same boat,” Patterson said ahead of the Netherton match.

Clashes between the sides have tended to be huge ones in the race for the ChromaSport Premier Division title in recent years, but Saturday’s visitors are down in 10th this year.

While a title challenge is still not out of the question for Moulton, they are in fourth, 11 points adrift of league leaders Uppingham Town but with games in hand on those around them.

“I know Netherton are trying to do something different this year and bring the youngsters through which is really admirable,” Patterson continued. “We know it will still be a tough one but hopefully we’ll get those three points to send us on a high into the New Year.”
