Good early response to appeal for clothes for Syrian migrant children

Organisers of an appeal to help clothe Syrian migrant children have been overwhelmed by the initial response.

But Spalding couple Mark and Sarah Le Sage say it is still early days and urged people to keep donating clothing suitable for 0-18 years.

Within three days of Ella’s Syrian Appeal being published in The Voice (September 17), 28 bags had been left at collection points in Spalding, Weston and Long Sutton.

Mark said: “People have been very generous and given us all sorts of stuff.
“We’re very, very pleased but please don’t stop!
“I do know that we’ve had donations from people who have lost loved ones so that must have been very difficult and we’re incredibly grateful.”

The appeal is a spin-off from Ella’s Project (named after the couple’s two-year-old daughter) which seeks to find new homes for outgrown clothing.

All donations – which must be undamaged and unsoiled – will soon be heading to Peterborough where they will be collated with others before heading out to aid migrants within the next two weeks. British Red Cross is one of the co-ordinators of the project.
