Tydd St Giles golfers tee-off to help George hear

Big-hearted golfers dug deep to help raise money to help fund waterproof hearing aids for a lively five-year-old.

George Hall had to be resuscitated at birth and then spent his first month in intensive care.
He was left deaf and with mobility issues, but attends mainstream school and loves swimming, which also helps with his joint problems.
But he needs special hearing aids, costing up to £6,000 to use while in the water so he can still interact with his teacher and friends.
His parents, Susie and William, recently went to Tydd St Giles Golf Club to collect money from a charity event organised by accountancy firm Bulley Davey.
“I had a normal pregnancy, George is my third child and we knew he was likely to be big. He weighed 12lb 4oz and was born fitting,” said his mum, of West Walton, near Wisbech.
“There was no heartbeat and it took five minutes to revive him and he was in the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital’s intensive care unit for a month,” she added.
George, whose great grandparents Janet and Percy Bettinson live at Pinchbeck, has brain damage and his parents are still unsure of how his future will be affected.
“He is a trouper and has achieved so much. He has to use a wheelchair when he’s tired and he can’t hear without the hearing aids.
“Swimming is very important for George as it helps his muscles and means he can be the same as his friends,” she said.
Family friend Debbie Nobbs put his name forward at Bulley Davey, where she works, for the charity event, and £320 was donated from the golf day.
While they were at the club, captain Vinny Day and vice captain Lee Smith also donated £1,000 to the cause from their charity funds.
“That was completely unexpected and came about just because we were there,” said Susie.
“It was a really nice thing to do and very much appreciated.
“The NHS can’t provide the hearing aids as they are not deemed a necessity. But they are for George so we decided to raise money ourselves,” she added.
“We have around £4,750 so far so it is going well,” she said.
There will be another fund raising event with an evening of spiritualism being held on September 28 at West Walton Village Hall.
The event will feature Paul Mainwaring and Barbara Price and tickets are £7 on the door.
