Future looks bright at Spalding Golf Club as juniors start season well

Competition season is now well under way at Spalding Golf Club, and the Nicholas Cup Stableford event saw another victory for the club’s blossoming junior section.

Tommy Hull came out on top with 39 points – a superb achievement in very blustery conditions which saw just two players break par.
Second place went to another rapidly improving junior, Jake Lilley, with 37 points. Matt Richardson and Thomas Langford were a further shot behind on 36, with Tom Cherry next on 35 points.

The April Medal saw slightly improved conditions and thus slightly better scoring.
Ted Portass (28 handicap) was victorious this time with a nett 68, beating Graham Rudkin by one shot.
Jake Lilley, Dave Colwell, Peter Clark and Calum Lewis were a further shot behind on 70.
Other players to finish under par on 71 were Rob Dunmore, Steven Baxendale, Christian Green, David Halfteck and Spen Gooderson.

2016 Club Captain David Tasker played the first of his mixed matches away at Sutton Bridge and came away with a noteworthy 3-3 draw.
Winning pairs for Spalding were Geoff Skinner and Julie Gooderson, Mike Murphy and Gill Dewhurst, and Alan Pritchard and Chris Vickers.

Captain Andy Rafferty and the 3rd team have played the first two of their matches. A narrow 8-7 win in the traditional season opener against the ladies was followed by a creditable 3-3 draw at home to a strong side from North Shore GC, Skegness.
Winning pairs were Dick and Stu Parker, Rob Sampson and Steve Hall, and Chris Hull with debutant Bill Prosser.
