Further hare coursers dealt with by police in South Holland

Lincolnshire Police has released updated details of its enforcement activity with hare coursing.

Operation Galileo is ongoing but the hare coursing season traditionally runs from September to March. Since September 1 last year, there have been 176 men arrested or reported for summons.
Ninety three other men have been dealt with by other enforcement action such as Direction to Leave, traffic offences, etc.
Also 19 vehicles and three dogs have been seized.

Details of latest incidents in South Holland include:

  • March 2 – man from Peterborough arrested for hunting with dogs on Queens Bank, Postland. He has been reported for summons and his dog seized pending a court hearing. The driver of a Suzuki is being investigated for failing to stop for police in relation to the same incident.
  • February 21 – four men from Surrey were given a direction to leave the county following an allegation of hare coursing in Gedney Dove End.

Lincolnshire Police’s lead for rural crime, Ch Insp Jim Tyner, said: “Operation Galileo continues and I remain determined that we use all legislative powers available to us to deal with the scourge of hare coursing.
“Where there isn’t enough evidence for a prosecution we will use other disruption tactics to deter people from visiting the county for hare coursing.”
