Friends to take part in 5k run to honour cancer fighter Allison

In honour and support of a family friend whose cancer recovery has been described as “miraculous,” two 12-year-olds will take on a fundraising 5K.

Allison Law (40), mum to Jada (6) and Jet (4), was diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer in January, which had spread to her bones and kidneys. Doctors said there was no cure and, privately, warned husband Andrew, whilst some patients survived for ten years, Allison may only have six to 12 months.

Now Allison, of West Elloe Avenue, Spalding, is on the brink of remission. The original tumour, which had wrapped around her kidney, has shrunk from the size of the envelope to that of a pea.

Following diagnosis, Allison and Andrew had to make a choice to fight the cancer or opt for treatment to just aim to make Allison more comfortable. Allison looked to Andrew to make the decision – and he said they fight  in every way possible.

Allison has undergone intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy and the couple implemented dietary changes, turned to homeopathy, Chinese Medicine, embraced juicing and blending ‘anti-cancer’ natural ingredients and superfoods, such as raw asparagus and apple cider vinegar shots with turmeric. The chemotherapy course ended up being reduced as the tumour was shrinking so fast.

Allison said: “I always say I had the easy job. I laid in bed in hospital and he had to face all the decisions. I couldn’t have done it without him.”

On Friday, family friend Ellie Lindsay, of Bourne Road, Spalding, and school friend at Bourne Academy Grace Groucott, are taking on a Race for Life at school wearing T-shirts emblazoned with Allison’s name. And their support, already raising more than £1,000 for Cancer Research UK, is just the latest act of positivity Allison and husband Andrew believe has helped her defy her prognosis. The congregation at St Norberts Church, Spalding, which a family member belongs to, have prayed for her regularly.

Ellie’s mum Lynzey Moore said: “We have felt helpless so it’s nice to be able to show support. I’m so proud of Ellie and Grace for what they are doing.”

Andrew said: “Of course the diagnosis was devastating. Your brain takes you to some very dark places that you have to fight to not think about. You have to bubblewrap yourselves in positivity.

“Our journey has been quite amazing. So many people have helped us along the way. I’m not religious but it has been like somebody has guided us. We have no scientific proof any of it has worked.

“Our doctor has said it is miraculous what has happened. They have put it down to the first scan being wrong but we had three scans and they all said the same thing.

“You need modern medicine to help you but diet is the first step to helping yourself.”

The couple, who own The Crystal Inn, Spalding, are looking into ways to share the knowledge they have amounted regarding juicing.

You can still sponsor Ellie and Grace. Sponsor forms are placed at The Moorings, The Crystal Inn and Pro Bodies, Spalding.
