Four injured, one cut out of car, after collision involving drug driver

A Gosberton man was over the limit for cannabis when involved in a collision that left four injured, one of whom had to be cut from their vehicle.

Ivaylo Ivanov, 42, of Churchfleet Lane, Gosberton admitted driving under the influence of drugs and
careless driving when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.

The court heard that while on the way to work in his Suzuki car, he collided with another car at a junction
at North Gate in West Pinchbeck at 8.20am on March 19.

All four occupants of the car were injured, one seriously, and one was trapped in the car and had to be
removed by Fire and Rescue personnel.

A positive drugs wipe revealed Ivanov had 2.2 micrograms of cannabis in his bloodstream, the legal limit
being two.

Ivanov, who was not represented, said he had started for work with two colleagues and that there was ‘not very good visibility’ at the junction and the sun had got into his eyes and that none of the three people in his car had seen the other car coming.

He told the magistrates that he had smoked cannabis for health reasons the previous evening but felt ‘very awake’ in the morning and was ‘very remorseful’ about what had happened.

He was banned from driving for a year and ordered to pay a fine of £323 and court costs and charges totalling £119.
