Five-alive Wilson signs off season in super style with strong Sunflower showing

Ben Wilson ended his season with a flourish on Saturday when he recorded five finishes in the top at the annual Sunflower Trophy meeting at Bishopscourt in Northern Ireland.

First up was the first of two Supersport races, where the 33-year-old Kirton rider got a fantastic start to make it up into second place behind his team-mate Glenn Irwin on the first lap. They were swiftly followed by his old arch rival Alastair Seeley and the three pulled away from the pack.

At the end of the seven-lap affair the places remained the same with Irwin taking the win from Wilson with Seeley following up in third.

Next up was the first Superbike outing, with Wilson completing the race in a close fourth place.

Then came the feature race, where Wilson was up against 1000cc bikes – but this did not faze the Lincolnshire rider and he was pushing hard throughout the ten laps to secure a creditable fifth place at the chequered flag.

He was, however, the first rider home on a Supersport machine.

The second Supersport race was a near re-run of the first with Irwin taking the win from Wilson – but this time it was Andy Irwin taking third making it a Gearlink one-two-three.

The final race for Wilson was the second Superbike event. He got another quick start to lead the riders around the first corner and was running second on lap two.

But the red flag halted his progress and at the re-start he slotted into second spot behind Danny Buchan.

He was then overtaken by Keith Farmer on lap two, but Wilson was not going to settle for third place and, on lap five, he passed Farmer to regain second place which he held to the chequered flag to give his team their first Superbike podium.

This fine set of results wrap up the 2015 season for Wilson, but he will be keeping in shape by racing at the Mablethorpe sand races throughout the winter months.
