Fisher praises G&S Racing Kawasaki riders after solid Silverstone showing

The G&S Racing Kawasaki team were back up to full strength as the team headed to Silverstone for the latest round of the Pirelli Superstock and Junior Superstock championship.

TJ Toms recorded a 19th and 20th place and Milo Ward a 30th and 31st in the Superstock Championship for the Wyberton-based team, while Kevin Keyes was unlucky to crash out of fifth place in the Junior Superstock race.

Keyes was anxious to get his season underway after missing the earlier races because of Covid-19 restrictions.

He used the free practice sessions to reacquaint himself with the little Kawasaki before recording some fast laps during qualifying to start his race from the middle of the sixth row.

However, he was lucky to avoid the carnage on the first lap when five riders crashed. The safety car was deployed for the first four laps while the damaged machines were removed – and once the race got back under way he was quick to take advantage of the riders ahead.

By the half way stage of the 20 laps he was up into fifth place and looking to move further forward but on lap 12 he had a massive high side at Luffield and crashed out of the race.

In the Superstock class the riders had two races to contest with Ward qualifying in 34th place on his return to action and Toms in 27th.

Ward completed the first race in 30th place and was 31st in the second encounter, while Toms broke into the top 20 in race one with a 19th place finish.

In the second race he started from the sixth row and made up places to 20th.

Team manager Tom Fisher said: “What a weekend! All three riders were faster than ever before but it’s so competitive out there and so many riders on such a short circuit all on the same pace it was just impossible to get up into a point scoring position.

“We welcomed Kevin back to the team and congratulate him on the birth of his son last weekend.

“He made big steps forward over the weekend and was flying in the race until he made the smallest of mistakes and went down.

“But for that he was looking at a podium, if not the win. He will use the remainder of the season to settle in and is to make a full season challenge next year.

“We also welcome Milo Ward back after completing his university course. His results do not reflect the efforts put in as he bettered his lap times from last time at Silverstone.

“The same with TJ Toms, he was recording lap times comparable with half the field but it’s so tight here that there was nothing between them. I am so proud of the whole team as the riders and support staff worked so hard again this weekend.

“I also convey my thanks to sponsors and supporters, some of whom joined us at Silverstone.”

The next round is at Oulton Park on September 24/26, but there is no rest for Fisher as he is at Cadwell this weekend with Kime Racing in the final round of the No Limits Championship, where he currently holds second place in the Super 600 class.
