Feast of action at Pinchbeck United’s beer and football festival over the weekend

Pinchbeck United are hoping that football fans in South Holland will visit their beer and football festival over the weekend.

The Knight Street event, which runs from Friday to Sunday, is headlined by five games of football involving four of the club’s many teams.

Friday night sees the first team take on a Boston United XI (7pm), before they then take on Horncastle Town at 1pm on Saturday.

Pinchbeck’s Reserves then take on Kirton Town at 4.30pm on Saturday.

Two games follow on Sunday, with Pinchbeck Sunday taking on Old Fosdyke Reserves (10.30am) and Pinchbeck’s under-16s playing Boston United under-16s (2pm).

As well as the football, there will be a host of food and drink on sale – including various beers and burgers, hot dogs, jacket potatoes and chips.

The festival is open from 5pm-11pm on Friday, 11am-11pm on Saturday and 11am-8pm on Sunday.

First team player/boss Ian Dunn said: “Hopefully people will want to come down and see five free games of football.

“It’s great to have four of the club’s teams playing. We thought the festival was something worth trying, you never know – it might take off.

“People can come down and have a drink and something to eat and perhaps make a weekend of it.”

The first team will be hoping to continue their eye-catching pre-season form over the weekend.

They beat South Holland rivals Long Sutton Athletic 5-2 on Saturday, with the goals coming from Tom Brooks (2), Liam Ogden (2) and Alex Cammack.

Dunn isn’t getting carried away with the results, but admits that a change of approach to pre-season looks to be paying dividends so far.

He added: “Pre-season has gone well for us so far. We’ve only really had one training session as we’ve decided to play more games instead.

“It’s a different way of looking at things and I think it has worked well. If the season started tomorrow, we’d be fit and raring to go.

“You never read too much into pre-season results, but we’ve had some good ones – especially beating Wisbech 3-0. We seem to have a lot of confidence within the squad, which has carried on from the end of last season.”
