Family goes miles to fight mum’s cancer

A Spalding family says they’ve used life savings and given up jobs to help their mum fly to Mexico for cancer treatment.

Katarzyna Chipala (69) has been in the Central America country for four weeks being treated for multiple myleoma, a form of bone cancer.

Her daughter, also called Katarzyna, says after two years of suffering the family looked for treatments other than chemotherapy due to the intense pain her mum has due to the condition in her bones.

They found the Immunity Therapy Clinic in Tijuana with savings going towards the initial cost of the four-week treatment of nearly £40,000.

The family says in total from their savings they’ve already paid £50,000 and have set up a Go Fund Me page to help fund the cost of the drugs to prolong the treatment when back in this country.

Katarzyna described the natural treatments as her mum’s “last hope” and quit her full time job to accompany her.

“The treatment so far has been very good and the doctors are already seeing improvements,” she said from Mexico. “Her appetite is better.

“She is following a special diet, the food is organic and specially made for cancer patients.

“She is still in pain due to bone fractures that the multiple myeloma has caused, the doctors are saying this is not a fast recovery and she will need to stick with the diet and the treatments at home, but they can see hope and we as family feel that we have made the right choice.

“We felt that Mum was getting weaker by each day and going to Mexico was the last hope that we had.

“We are praying to God every day for my mum’s healing. She means the world to us.

“The last few months have been so difficult and stressful and just getting here was so difficult given how much pain she was in.”

Katarzyna’s other daughter Monnika has remained in Spalding but FaceTimes every day.

She says the family have rallied around after a horrendous few years which saw them lose their dad after a short illness and their brother who died aged 42.

“Our mum is our everything,” said Monnika. “We are a very close and strong family who want to do the best for her.

“She has always been there for us and now we’re trying to be there for here.”
