Steve Machin receives his MBE from Lincolnshire's Lord Lieutenant Toby Dennis, watched by his wife Pip and children Ollie and Keira.

Family affair for MBE investiture

A Spalding family welcomed the county’s Lord Lieutenant to their home for the special presentation of an MBE.

Steve Machin (50) was awarded the honour for his services to HMP Prison and Probation Service, and Toby Dennis performed the investiture.
“We had an amazing day,” said his wife, Pip, after the event.
The couple’s children Ollie and Keira were also at the ceremony.
Steve was named as a recipient in the first birthday honours of King Charles in June.
Steve was the Head of Counter Terrorism at Whitemoor Prison, March and had been one of the first on the scene of a terrorist attack on London Bridge in November 2019.
Two people were killed at the incident which started in the Fishmongers’ Hall. Steve had been attending the conference and helped disarm the terrorist.
“We couldn’t say too much at the time,” said Mrs Machin.
“He was at the conference and was involved with disarming the man.”
A total of five people were attacked before police shot the terrorist dead.
Steve has also been a stalwart of Spalding Rugby Club where he coached young players for many years.
He played for Spalding’s first team and has been involved with the club for many years.
He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year and is receiving palliative care at home.
