Extra funding for the district

Communities and businesses in South Holland are set to benefit from £3.39m of funding.

The money is coming from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and the Rural England Property Fund, and the district council is inviting expressions of interest.

The government is awarding £2.69m through the shared prosperity fund with a further £700,000 available through a separate fund aimed at rural populations.

Investments in local projects will be focused around three key themes, with additional priorities identified by the district council.

Supporting community groups and investment in community facilities to enhance the cultural and heritage offer, widening the use of community buildings and initiatives to support town centres.

Local business can also be supported, growing the food processing, horticulture and logistics sector, encouraging new businesses to establish.

Funding can also be allocated for developing skills and employment opportunities; creating new training hubs and supporting residents with skills and access to employment.

“I am delighted that we are able to offer this new funding opportunity in South Holland, and have the opportunity to work with and support local organisations, including parish councils, to make a real difference to our residents, employees and businesses,” said Coun Nick Worth, deputy leader of South Holland District Council.

“I am looking forward to seeing some innovative and ambitious new projects and programmes getting under way over the next few years, and to witnessing the lasting impact they are able to make for our communities and economy.”

The fund will be administered by the council and the decision-making process will be supported by a group of representatives from local businesses, community organisations, education providers, investors and other key sectors. Eligible organisations can submit an expression of interest now.

South Holland and The Deepings MP Sir John Hayes said it was ‘superb news’ for the district.

“It will make a huge difference ,” he said.

The council is keen to hear from those aiming to deliver projects, but has stressed the fact it’s not a first-come first-served basis. Funds will be delivered on quality and impact.
