Epic showdowns light up fantastic Spalding and District Darts League finals

It was trophy time in the Grays of Holbeach Spalding and District Darts League as they held their finals night at Spalding Services Club.

The evening got under way with the Kelly Foster Cup final, with Division Three champions Old Black Lion seeing off Black Swan 14-7 to complete a double.

Next up was the Secondary Cup final, with Whaplode Drove getting the better of Jolly Farmer A 14-7 to round off a solid season.

The third final was the pick of the bunch, with Rose and Crown edging past Ship Albion 11-10 to lift the Supreme Cup.

Ben Gardener clinched the win by taking two legs against Nick Moyses.

Rose and Crown claimed their second trophy of the night in the Triples Champion of Champions final as they saw off The Wheatsheaf.

It was then time for the pairs finals, with the Division Three showdown being an all-Old Black Lion affair.

Nick Horspool and Dawn MacTavish emerged as the winners, knocking off team-mates Daniel and Kevin Cooper to lift the crown.

Kev Newton and Phil Newton (Jolly Farmer A) then landed the Division Two pairs prize as they defeated Jonny Robinson and Andy Beeken from Consti A.

The Division One pairs title went the way of Steve Stancer and John McGurk (Ship Albion), who defeated the formidable New Saracen’s Head pairing of Duncan Hunt and Mark Horspool.

The Ladies’ final went the way of Casey Hill, with the Horse and Groom thrower having just too much for Lesley Cutts (Jolly Farmer B).

Meanwhile, Jason Vines brought the Captain’s Cup back to the George and Angel with a success over Consti A skipper Beeken.

The singles finals produced some excellent showdowns. The Division Three showpiece saw Wheatsheaf’s Alex Gostic prevail over Old Black Lion’s Nick Horspool, while Beeken bagged the Division

Two crown after dispatching Whaplode Drove’s Tim Tomizzi.

However, it was the Division One singles final between Pete Richardson (NSH C) and Andy Bingham (Ship Albion) which really delivered. Bingham emerged victorious by taking out a 126 finish (on the bull) to win an epic battle 3-2.
