Ebdon hopeful Moreman will snub King’s Lynn Town to stay with Spalding United

Spalding United manager Marcus Ebdon remains confident that he’ll be able to hold onto star striker Josh Moreman amid interest from King’s Lynn Town.

The Linnets, who play in the Southern League Premier Division, have made a seven-day approach for the 16-goal ace.

Having also lost hitman Jake Newman (to Stamford) and winger Mitch Griffiths (Lincoln United) in recent weeks, Ebdon admits that he’d be gutted to lose the speedy Moreman.

He concedes that the move would be a good one for his top attacking talent, but does want him to stay.

“Josh has told me that he’s happy at Spalding,” said Ebdon. “We’re very happy with him too.

“I’m aware of King’s Lynn’s interest – and it would be a decent move for him, although a lot of travelling.

“Obviously it’s up to him, but I’m hopeful that he’ll choose to stay with us and help us push for the play-offs.”

Should he lose Moreman, Ebdon would be forced to double his efforts as he bids to reinforce his squad.

The ex-Peterborough United professional admits that his search for fresh talent has been “a nightmare”, with the Tulips struggling to get deals over the line.

Ebdon has revealed that Spalding do have a host of seven-day approaches in for unnamed targets – and says there could be new faces in the squad at Kidsgrove on Saturday (3pm).

That game highlights just how close Evo-Stik NPL Division One South is this season, with fourth-placed Spalding making the trip to Stoke-on-Trent just six points ahead of their 13th-placed hosts.

Ebdon enjoys the competitive nature of the division, but concedes that his side will need to put a winning run together to keep their play-off bid alive.

He added: “Kidsgrove are a decent side, but I could say that about all of the teams. It’s scarily tight and every match is a hard one.

“We can’t afford another run of bad results, otherwise we’ll slide down the table.

“We’re capable of putting a run together, but some of the other lads are going to need to help Josh (Moreman) out and start scoring a few goals.”

Spalding must do without Charley Sanders on Saturday, but could welcome back defender Neal Spafford, who missed Saturday’s win over Romulus.
