Durham digs in for a pair of podium slots

There was joy and sorrow for G&S Racing Kawasaki on Sunday as Asher Durham secured two podiums but Jorel Boerboom suffered a crash at Knockhill in round four of the Pirelli National Superstock and Junior Superstock races.

Durham was in fine form and completed qualifying in seventh place to start the first of his two races from the head of the third row. He was eighth in the early laps before starting a move forward and by lap 13 of 20 he was third. The top three broke away from the pack and, although he was close to Owen Jenner in second place, he was unable get past.
Starting race two from the front row, Durham was going well in third place when the race was stopped on lap two after a crash involving seven riders at the hairpin.
After a lengthy delay the race was restarted and Durham was quick to move up into second place on lap two. Jenner was right behind and at the halfway stage of the 22 laps he made his pass stick.
Durham was not done though and circulated within 0.3 seconds of Jenner, waiting for an opportunity to snatch his position back and did so in style on the last lap, passing him at the hairpin to claim second place at the flag.
On the other side of the garage Boerboom was not so lucky. After qualifying 25th, he began the first race from the ninth row of the grid. He immediately made up places to 22nd and was running in that position throughout the race until lap 16 when he suffered a huge high side at turn five, which brought out the red flag. He was taken to the medical centre where it was discovered that, although badly bruised, luckily there were no broken bones and he was able to walk back to the team. Unfortunately the bike did not fare so well and it was decided to withdraw from race two.
Team manager Tom Fisher said Boerboom was okay, just a bit battered. “He really wanted to go out in the second race but we didn’t have the time to get the bike running so we made the decision to withdraw.
“Asher did so well again and is now up into second place in the points and just 28 points away from the championship lead.
“That’s amazing, especially as he missed the first race. It won’t be long before he is winning races, which is good for us at G&S Racing and also for Kawasaki and our sponsors and supporters.”
The next round is at Snetterton over the weekend of July 7/9.
