Dunn feels table-topping Pinchbeck United are ‘yet to reach peak’

Ian Dunn reckons that his Pinchbeck United side are yet to show what they’re truly capable of – despite returning to the top of the table at the weekend.

Saturday’s impressive 6-0 victory over Wellingborough Whitworth extended the Knights’ unbeaten league run to 36 games and saw them leapfrog Daventry Town at the top of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division table.

Although he’s been impressed with how quickly Pinchbeck have settled into step five football following successive promotions, he feels that the next six weeks will dictate how their season pans out.

“I’m not getting carried away,” said the Knights player/boss. “But I’m encouraged to see that we’re into our stride already.

“We’ve adapted quite quickly to the league and I’m also very happy with the additions we’ve made.

“I’ve got to be happy with the start we’ve made, but it’s early days. I thought that we’d maybe lose one or two of our first eight league games – but the lads have been brilliant so far.

“I’m not naïve, though. We’ve got a lot of the big teams still to play and the next six weeks or so will give us a good indication of where we are.

“Things will get harder, but I’m not convinced that this side is anywhere near its peak yet.

“We’ve not really had a settled side due to suspensions and injuries, so we’ve not quite had that continuity yet.

“I think we’ve surprised a few people, maybe we’ve surprised ourselves too. We’ve had a great start to the league season, but we’ll not settle for just that.”

Pinchbeck are without a game this weekend due to being out of the FA Vase, but that gives Dunn and his assistant Allan Ross more time to prepare for their top-of-the-table clash at second-placed Daventry Town the following weekend.

“We’ll keep busy,” added Dunn. “It’s frustrating to have a free weekend at this stage of the season, but it’s our fault for going out of the FA Vase.

“We’ll make sure that we prepare right for Daventry, that’s a really big game for the club. We’ve also got a few niggles, so it’ll give us time to get the likes of Andrew Tidswell, Lee Beeson and Jason Field fit.”
