Dunn feels hitting the UCL summit is recognition for all at Pinchbeck United

Jordan Nuttell’s first goal of the season fired Pinchbeck United to the top of the Future Lions UCL Premier Division on Saturday.

Striker Nuttell, signed from Boston Town in the summer, clinically finished a one-on-one chance ten minutes from time to clinch a 1-0 victory at Cogenhoe United.

It was the best chance of a very tight tussle at Compton Park, but the Knights edged to their third win from four top flight games since being promoted as UCL Division One champions last season.

The victory also extended Pinchbeck’s incredible unbeaten league streak to 31 games (28 in Division One) – and they are now closing on an entire year without defeat.

“It was the kind of performance we’ve become accustomed to,” admitted Dunn. “We dug in well and, in the end, I think we deserved the win.

“It was a very tight game, but we stifled their attacks and dealt with their threats. They maybe have one decent chance, while we had a few more.

“For us, it’s a win against another one of the well established UCL Premier Division sides, like Leicester Nirvana the other week.

“They were unbeaten in the league before this game, but we did a good job on them.

“Obviously we’re very pleased with our current position, being top is never a bad thing. Ideally, I’d like us to score a few more goals – but we’ve been very solid defensively.

“We’ve not had an easy start, either. So, as a club, we’ve got to be very happy with the progression we’ve made.

“We’ll not get carried away, but it’s a bit of recognition for the players and management team. We all work our socks off at the club.

“On Saturday we only had a few players that weren’t at the club last year, which is perhaps the most pleasing thing. Our feet will remain on the ground and we’ll keep doing what we do best.”
