Paul Carter (41), Lisa Carter (49) and Jade Mace (25) were killed in the collision earlier this year.

‘Disappointment’ over appeal plea

A Gedney woman has expressed her frustration and disappointment after she was told there would be no review on the sentencing of the man who killed her mum, step-dad and sister.

Aurelijus Cielevicius was jailed for ten and a half years after drug driving a BMW on the wrong side of the road and into a collision that killed Lisa and Paul Carter and Jade Mace on January 15 last year.
He’ll be eligible to appeal for release after seven years despite being disqualified from driving three times in the three years prior to the incident which happened while he was on bail for driving and drug offences and meant to be under curfew.
Summer Mace set up a petition that’s been signed by nearly 14,000 people calling for the sentencing to be appealed and changes to the justice system.
Through North West Norfolk MP James Wild they were able to get a meeting with the attorney general Victoria Mentis. However Summer was left frustrated with the outcome.
“We were extremely nervous to meet the attorney general and it was mentally draining preparing ourselves to fight for justice for our family,” Summer said. “Fighting for justice for people you love who have been killed whilst grieving is mentally draining, so it is frustrating and disappointing when we get these outcomes.
“We are very disappointed as a family that there is not a chance for our appeal to be looked at again.
“We are still pushing for information such as the advice given to the solicitor general from the King’s Council on why our appeal should be declined and also what it actually takes to get that full sentence.
“We are still left with so many unanswered questions and have no further insight to why our appeal was denied compared to others.
“Any person who looks at what happened to my beautiful family and the ridiculous sentence given, states that it should be more, so I will never understand why people in these higher positions do not feel the same.
“We will keep pushing for information and fighting for both justice for my family and further changes in the law to fix the broken justice system.”
