Dan leads run spree for Sutton

Long Sutton moved off the bottom of the Rutland League Division Three table after a massive 223-run success over Wisbech 2nd on Sunday.

Sutton piled up a huge 312-5 from their 45 overs before dismissing Wisbech for just 89.

Opener Dan Oldfield led the Sutton run spree with a superb 143, which included 21 fours and two sixes.

Steve Skoulding (56) also weighed in with a half-century while Phil Barnes was unbeaten on 60 at the close.

Wisbech did make a steady start, however, the introduction of Jake Burton into the Sutton bowling attack sparked a batting collapse.

After Burton had trapped Lewis Jackson (12) leg before, none of the remaining Wisbech batsmen reached double figures with the Sutton bowler returning an amazing 5-5 from 7.4 overs. Ryan Hallam and Matt Bull both claimed two wickets apiece as Sutton’s success sent Wisbech to the foot of the table.

Spalding Town’s stay at the top of the Division Six table was short-lived after an eight-wicket defeat at Huntingdon, who are now the new leaders.

Town, who had moved into pole position the previous weekend, made 195-9 from their 45 overs with Hafiz Majeed scoring more than half their total.

Majeed was unbeaten on 104 not out when the innings closed after Harry Wilkinson-Roberts (33) and Steven Rushworth (25) had given Spalding a solid start.

Huntingdon made light work of chasing down the target as they took less than 31 overs to pass Town’s total for the loss of just two wickets.

Moulton Harrox suffered a 97-run defeat away at Orton Park 2nd despite a superb century from Joe Broomfield.

The Peterborough side had been dismissed for 241 by Moulton with Alex Baker claiming 4-40 from his ten-over spell.

However, Broomfield’s brilliance was lacking any support from his team-mates as Moulton were bowled out for 144 with their in-form opening batsman contribution 108 of those runs.

Extras was Moulton’s next top scorer with 16 as the ten other batsmen all failed to get into double figures.
