Crash barriers left unfixed for months – Council: ‘take care on these bends’

Safety concerns have arisen after a damaged crash barrier in Crowland has been struck again and in Pinchbeck a bridge barrier damaged in April is yet to be repaired.

Concerned Crowland resident Justyn Stanley said the barrier at the sharp bend on the corner of Hull’s Drove and Martins Road was first struck in May.

“The first car hit it on May 27, 2017, which left the barrier with a lot of structural damage. I understand that the driver got out with minor injuries but the way that the barrier was left, if anyone was unfortunate to hit it in the same place it would be at windscreen or head height,” said Justyn.

“Nothing has been done to repair it since then and we look at it every day and keep saying that it is so dangerous someone will get seriously injured or worse,” Justyn said.

The barrier was again hit overnight on September 21.

On April 21, 2017, a car hit the barrier on Money Bridge, Pinchbeck. It is currently patched with plastic.

A County Council highways spokesperson said drivers should take extra care at places with weakened defenses: “We’re aware of both issues and our contractor is arranging for the necessary repairs to be made. In the meantime, we’d encourage motorists to take care on these bends.”
