Compensation for solar energy row

A Holbeach couple have been awarded compensation after a row over solar panel registration.

Pam and Ricky Fry went to the Ombudsman after missed appointments and lengthy delays in registering solar panels.
The couple had the panels installed in January, but there was a delay in completing paperwork to allow power to be sold to the grid under a scheme designed to help.
Registration was not completed by the company until September – costing the couple in lost payments.
The Ombudsman found for the couple as engineers missed appointments and they were not told about the required Smart Export Generation (SEG) registration which resulted in delays.
Utility Warehouse has credited the couple’s account with £100 for missed payments and a further £120 was paid for missing appointments. There were other payments which totalled £299.30.
Along with the money, the Ombudsman said Utility Warehouse should offer a written apology.
“We just worry that other people are losing out because they don’t know about the process for registering solar panels or their installation company is being slow,” said Mrs Fry.
They paid £14,000 for the panels and had received no payments for the energy they sold back via SEG due to delays in the registration process.
After months of frustration they went to the Ombudsman in a bid to resolve the issues.
