Community bookshop for Holbeach

The team behind a new community bookshop in Holbeach is looking for volunteers to help run it.

The Holbeach Bookshop, is a new not for profit community second-hand bookshop.

As a community shop-style venture it is to be staffed by volunteers and will ultimately benefit the local community by supporting other local charities and good causes.

It is intended that it will be stocked with donations of books, and other media, from the public and be a centre for local information.

The initial idea of opening a bookshop came from Kate Plant, a curate at All Saints’ Church, who was surprised when she moved to the town that it didn’t already have one.

During the course of her work she also met many people who might enjoy working with books and loads more who love to read.

Then after meeting Brian and Carolyn Boardman, who have previously run a bookshop and wanted to get involved, the idea took off.

“I’m so pleased this is happening in Holbeach” she said, “and I am very grateful for the support given from so many quarters. So far we have also had significant support from The Lions who have been brilliant, as have the Holbeach

Action Group, the District Council, University Academy Holbeach and of course All Saints’ PCC.”

Having finally secured a premises at 81 High Street (formerly Carters Estate Agents), the trustees are now looking to recruit a team of volunteers for a variety of roles.

All the various volunteering roles and a chance to meet those behind the project is planned to take place at 10am on

Monday (March 26) at All Saints’ Church, Holbeach.

It is a great opportunity to ask any questions and see how you could get involved.

Charles Baker, chairman of the Trustees, said: “To have a bookshop back in Holbeach is a very exciting prospect for our High Street and we do hope that anyone who can spare a few hours every so often will come to the meeting and find out about the various volunteering opportunities.”

If you can’t make this meeting and would like to know more please call Carolyn Boardman on 01406 422700 for more details.
