COLUMN: Join us at free fireworks display to light up town

Part of Tulip Radio’s remit from the Government regulator, Ofcom, is to become as involved as possible within the local community.

Over the 13 years we have been broadcasting, initially part time but full time since 2009, we have tried to promote as many local community events as possible.

South Holland District Council and Spalding Chamber of Commerce have regularly involved us in their events and we are fortunate to have been invited to compere many of these events; as we do with others, like Pinchbeck Carnival and so on.

Recently we were approached by organisers of a new free event in Spalding to celebrate what happened over 400 years ago, the Gunpowder Plot.

Thanks to Roger Tuby Funfairs who have teamed up with the Queensgate Centre in Peterborough, a new free Firework Display will be blasting off from Spalding Rugby Club’s Memorial Field in St Thomas’ Road on Friday, October 31.

Entry will be entirely free but tickets must be collected from Hills Department Store in Broad Street and Alley Catz in Westlode Street, prior to the event.

There will be free fairground rides in the car park of the rugby club from 4.30pm until 5pm and thereafter normal charges will apply. Tulip Radio will be compering the event and we will feature several local artistes who will perform from the stage on the field ahead of the main pyrotechnic display at 7pm.

If you would like to be part of this event and sing or dance on the stage, please contact Jan Whitbourn at Tulip Radio.

Without the generosity of the Queensgate Centre in Peterborough, well known to all who shop there, as well as Roger Tuby who has been providing funfairs in South Holland for over 45 years, none of this would happen.

How often can you see a spectacular fireworks display absolutely free?

Obviously there will be food and other stalls there on the night but we at Tulip Radio are proud to be involved in this very first free firework event to celebrate something that could have very nearly destroyed our democracy over 400 years ago?

We’ll be at the Memorial Field from 4pm and very much hope that this free, unique event is supported by as many local people as possible.

If you would like to know more about this free event please contact Jan Whitbourn at Tulip Radio on 01775 712400.
