Clifton admits that Deeping’s experience proved key as Holbeach United lose derby

Danny Clifton was left feeling philosophical about Holbeach United’s 3-0 derby defeat against Deeping Rangers Saturday.

The Deeping goals came from ex-Tiger Will Bird (19), Robbie Ellis (31) and T’ai Williams (76) at Carter’s Park as rock-bottom Holbeach suffered a 21st Uhlsport UCL Premier Division North loss of the season and edged closer to relegation.

The heavy rain and wind left the pitch virtually unplayable and Tigers boss Clifton admitted there wasn’t much he could take from the game.

“Both sides expected the game to be off,” admitted Clifton. “But the officials arrived at 2.25pm and said the game was on.

“After ten minutes the pitch was a bog and the going was very tough.

“The two things you need on this kind of pitch are physicality and experience – and they are two qualities my team doesn’t have.

“We huffed and we puffed, but Deeping just knew how to play the conditions.”

Tigers: Blake, Chester, Nuttell, Harris, Bedar, Wirkowski, Hallacci (Wilson), Dalladay (Camfield), Hales, Baughan, Gow. Not used: Carter, Warrington, Clifton.
