Charity spins a new service

A South Holland charity has purchased washing machines and tumble dryers you can book to use for free.

Tonic Health is also looking to distribute slow cookers while putting on cookery lessons for those who may need a little help.
The washing and drying machines are at both its Spalding hub, in Westlode Street, and the Holbeach hub on Boston Road South, and are available for anyone in the community to use providing they book first.
They charity’s Jo Ireland said: “The aim is to help with rising energy costs and also assist those who, for whatever reason do not have access to laundry washing facilities.
“There is no eligibility criteria to access the machines and washing powder can also be supplied free.”
The only stipulation is Tonic Health will not carry out any washing on pet bedding and the spaces must be booked in advance on 01775 725059, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm (slots run from 9am until 2pm).
Its also providing low cookers including to those that complete weekly cookery sessions at its Holbeach Hub.
“So far 30 plus have been distributed to local foodbanks, and also several more to individuals who may be struggling financially, be in temporary housing or have no working cooking facilities,” continued Jo.
“The cooking sessions have proved hugely popular.
“People can learn to prepare and cook suitable simple meals and at the end will be gifted a slow cooker, a recipe book and voucher for ingredients.
“We have recognised the need to assist local people due to rising household costs, and slow cooking is a low energy and nutritious form of cooking, allowing for batch cooking and freezing as necessary.
“We are interested to hear from anyone who is struggling, and Community Connectors are here to signpost to relevant support.”
