Change for car service drivers

After a decade of serving the community, Iris Landen has retired from the volunteer driver scheme in Spalding and Cowbit.

She worked as both a driver and co-ordinator for the area served by the Voluntary Car Service.

“Drivers and patients using the service will all be very sorry to see Iris retire, but realise all good things have to come to an end,” said group chairman and district council member Angela Newton.

“We would like to publicly acknowledge the significant efforts that Iris has made on behalf of the service. She will be sorely missed by us all.”

There have been some weeks when Iris has taken more than 100 calls and often at unsociable hours, Coun Newton said.

Roger Bates has volunteered to take over the role from February 1 and will cover the same hours – 9am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm.

He can be contacted on 07746 238561. There will also be back-up cover from Andy Bunce.

“As always we would be delighted to hear if anybody would like to join our small pool of volunteer drivers right across South Holland. You don’t have to offer a set amount of time each week,” said Coun Newton.

Drivers are reimbursed 50p per mile and have a DBS cheque.
