Ceiling falls in on tenant

A dad of three says he warned the council about the state of his property before his kitchen ceiling came in on him and his ten-year-old son.

Ian Miller moved into the council owned property on Holbeach, last June.
“I’ve been telling the council ever since I’ve moved in about the state of it, and the damp and mould,” said Mr Miller, who says he is taking legal action. “It’s in a real state and culminated in the bathroom falling into the kitchen.
“A bit of plaster hit my ten-year-old.”
A South Holland District Council statement said: “We are aware of the situation with Mr Miller and his council property in Holbeach, our officers worked with Mr Miller to move him into the property in question as requested in June of last year. Before moving in, the property received and passed a full inspection in accordance with our policies and procedures and was found to be free from any form of damp or mould.
“The ceiling issue was reported to us on February 7, it was investigated the following morning when our operatives confirmed it was safe, cleared the debris and works have been scheduled in to repair and re-plaster. At present we can find no discernible reason as to why this occurred but continue investigations.”
