Captain joy for hospital and Doy

Tydd St Giles’ Andy Hicks’ Captain’s Day competition saw more than 100 golfers take part in a stableford competition.

Bacon roll and coffee started the day, with a hog roast and prizegiving after the match.
The captain thanked all for taking part, green keepers for the excellent condition of the course all his helpers on the day as well as sponsors, which included, Coda Buildings, B J Tiller & Sons, SM Kemp, KLA Property Services, Nene Transport, Templeman Design, TT Scaffolding, The Anchor Inn, Sean Curson & Sons, Parkside Club, The Seaside Pizza Co, Adrian Flux Insurance Services, Rexel, Dick Hillard Motor Services, J E Cook Building Services, Mossop & Bowser Solicitors, Fraser Dawbarns Solicitors and Ashley Ziebart Joinery.
The halfway house raffle raised £3,610 for his charity, the Holbeach Hospital,
The competition was won by Russell Doy, with a score of 42 points. Second on countback on 39 points from Gary Brown and Terry Pease was Josh Ward.
The first lady was Liz Miller with 32 points. Nearest the pin on the fourth hole was Frank Howard, the eighth Rank Howard, 11th Paul Hobson and 16th Bally Sigurdsson.
Longest drive on the 13th hole was Jimmy Dack, with the award for nearest the pin in two on the 18th going to Chris Harpham.
The putting competition was won by Jonathan Housley-Stott with 15 points.

p Spalding Golf Club’s James Crampton is aiming to qualify for the Senior Open.
Crampton will be in action at Monk Island on the Macynys Peninsula in Wales on Monday, July 24. If he is successful he will line up at the Royal Porthcawl club from July 27-30 alongside top players including Darren Clarke, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie.
Clarke won the title at Gleneagles last year and said: “The Senior Open provides a fantastic opportunity for amateur golfers to potentially play alongside some of the world’s best senior professional players. I’m looking forward to seeing who will be joining me at Royal Porthcawl in July.
