Busy month for enforcement

November proved a busy month for South Holland District Council’s Public Protection team, with 20 prosecutions for those who failed to pay FPNs (Fixed Penalty Notices) for littering offences and a further 109 FPNs were issued for offenders caught fly-tipping, spitting or littering in the district.

Boston Magistrates Court issued the 20 offenders who hadn’t paid a fine of £220, costs of £119.89 and victim surcharge of £88.
This comes as the Public Protection team awarded more than 109 FPNs in November alone, with three for fly-tipping, 11 for spitting and the rest for littering. This brings the total number of FPNs issued since March up to 812.
A three-year contract was awarded to Kingdom LA Support Ltd along with Boston Borough Council and East Lindsey District Council in January 2023. This contract award was a key strategic milestone for the South and East Lincolnshire Councils Partnership in addressing enviro-crime head on across each authority as littering, dog-fouling, fly-tipping and other enviro-crime offences continue to blight our communities.
As recently as August, South Holland District Council raised penalties for environmental crimes including fly-tipping and littering to act as a deterrent to would-be offenders living and visiting South Holland.
Coun Anthony Casson, portfolio holder for public protection said: “Our team, in partnership with Kingdom LA Support Ltd are doing some fantastic work tackling enviro-crime which sadly blights communities across the district.”
“It is our hope that the work we’re doing will send a message to would-be offenders that we will not tolerate enviro-crime anywhere in South Holland, and we will continue to do our upmost to protect our towns, villages, waterways and countryside and bring those responsible to justice.”
