Spalding doctor (60) dies in road accident while cycling

A long-time Spalding GP has been killed in a road traffic collision while cycling.

Dr Charles Lennon (60) had only retired from Munro Medical Centre on October 31. His cycle was in collision with a bus on the A15 at Thurlby, near Bourne.

Cycling was one of his hobbies which he was looking forward to spending more time doing in his retirement.

Emergency services were called to the collision at about 1pm on Tuesday (Nov 8). Dr Lennon was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lincolnshire Police said: “The driver of the bus, a 43-year-old local man, was shocked but not injured.

“We are asking for anyone who was in the Thurlby area and saw the collision or saw either the cyclist or the bus – which was a blue and cream double decker – before the collision to contact us on 101 or the witness hotline on 01522 558855.”

Dr Lennon, of Halmergate, Spalding, was at Munro Medical Centre in West Elloe Avenue for 28 years. He started at the practice in 1988 as a sixth doctor.

  1. What rotten twists can life play on us. A man who helped many of us will be sadly missed. RIP Dr Lennon, thank you for all that you did.
