Boss Robbo expecting a roller-coaster finale to Holbeach United’s season

The home stretch of Holbeach United’s season is likely to be a roller-coaster – according to player/boss Tom Roberts.

Saturday’s 4-2 victory over Peterborough Norther Star has revitalised everybody at Carter’s Park ahead of a run-in that could see the Tigers do a ChromaSport UCL Premier Division double.

The next stop for Roberts and his Holbeach side is a tricky trip to 15th-placed Northampton Spencer – who drew 2-2 at Carter’s Park back in August.

Although the Tigers are one of five sides with a realistic shout of winning the title, Roberts isn’t interested in worrying about what his rivals are doing. Holbeach, who have three games in hand, cut the gap to leaders Leicester Nirvana to 11 points over the weekend – but there’ll be no talk of a title bid coming from Carter’s Park.

“We know what Spencer are all about,” said Roberts. “They drew 2-2 at our place, but we played very badly that day.

“We’ll be looking to right that wrong at the weekend.

“We’re at the stage now where we won’t be worrying about other teams and other results.

“I’m focusing on us and putting a run together. It’ll be like getting on a roller-coaster and seeing where we end up.

“Do I think we’ll finish high in the table? I certainly hope so, but we’ll have to wait and see.

“What I will say is the PNS win was our way of saying thank you to the fans for sticking by us. We’ve had some bad results and performances lately, but the lads certainly showed their commitment at the weekend.”

Roberts admits that new signing Sean Coughlan is pushing for a start at Spencer following a lively showing as a substitute against Star.

The Tigers also have Jake Clitheroe back, but are still without suspended trio Jamie Stevens, Stacy Cartwright and Tom Gosling.

Meanwhile, Holbeach have appealed to the UCL after not being awarded any points for Yaxley fielding an ineligible player against them in December’s 1-0 loss.

The Cuckoos have been deducted six points for playing keeper Josh Lynch, but Holbeach want the win to be given to them.
