Boss Jarvis bemoans missed chances as Holbeach United are held

Darren Jarvis rued two dropped points as title-chasing Holbeach United were held to a goalless draw at his former side Peterborough Northern Star on Saturday.

The Tigers made it 11 ChromaSport UCL Premier Division games unbeaten with the stalemate at The Branch Bros Stadium, but lost ground on top two Leicester Nirvana and Kirby Muxloe.

The shutout did keep Holbeach’s amazing run of clean-sheets going, though, with keeper Ricky Drury having not conceded in more than 500 minutes since Dan Cotton’s strike for Yaxley back on October 6.

Josh Ford rattled the post for the Tigers in the first period, but did need Drury to pull off a host of fine saves to ensure the spoils were shared.

Tigers boss Jarvis said: “For 70 minutes I thought we had the better chances. If we’d have taken one of them, I don’t think they would have approached the last 20 in the same way as they did.

“On paper, with Star having won five on the spin before this game, a draw looks a good result for us.

“But we still walk away a little disappointed not to take all three points.

“I thought we had the better of the chances and it feels like two points dropped.

“Still, to continue our unbeaten run is very pleasing and we’re still sitting in a very encouraging position in the table.

“Personally, it was also nice to see a few old faces at Star and I was received very well by the people there.”

Holbeach went into the game as firm favourites – but keeper Drury was forced to pull off two smart saves from Craig Smith in the first half before they enjoyed a period of pressure.

Striker Ford volleyed wide and cracked an effort off the face of the post, before spurning a third opportunity soon after.

Fellow frontmen Tommy Treacher and Jordan Thomas both missed presentable chances for the visitors, too.

Holbeach were on the ropes a little towards the end, with Declan Rogers racing through one-on-one and drawing another save from the impressive Drury.

That man Rogers then fired an effort off the top of the bar as Star pushed for a last-gasp winner, before James Hill-Seekings was denied by that man Drury in added time to ensure the scores finished level.
