Boss Hayes tells Holbeach United to stop the rot against lowly Harrowby United

Seb Hayes is adamant that Holbeach United’s season isn’t over.

The Tigers have no chance of winning silverware this season after exiting two cup competitions in recent weeks, but boss Hayes feels they can still have a say in when the ChromaSport UCL Premier Division title is won.

He wants the team to rediscover their pride and finish the season in the best possible form, with two games against second-placed Eynesbury Rovers among the remaining highlights.

Part one of Holbeach getting back to form is ending their five-game losing streak.

Saturday represents a great chance for them to do that, with 21st-placed Harrowby United – themselves without a win in eight matches – the visitors to Carter’s Park on Saturday (3pm).

Hayes insists it’ll be no walk in the park for his charges, but is buoyed by having a near full strength squad at his disposal.

Only skipper Jamie Stevens, who will warm up with the side on Saturday, is missing. And, having had last Saturday free due to the trip to Eynesbury being postponed, Hayes hopes his luck is changing.

“We didn’t want the game off,” said the ex-Huntingdon Town chief. “But it allowed us to train well and get a few players fit.

“We now go into Saturday with the strongest squad I’ve had since I took over – and with Jamie almost back, it feels like things are turning for us.

“I’m not looking at Harrowby as a pushover. They are Jekyll and Hyde at times. I’ve seen them only lose 2-1 to Peterborough Sports one week, then crash 10-0 to Yaxley.

“We just need to stop the rot. Just any kind of result other than a defeat would be huge – but obviously I want a win.

“We’ve not deserved to lose all five games, especially not the Boston one. I’ve told the lads that and I’ve told them that our season isn’t over.

“We play Eynesbury twice and that could impact the title race. We can have a say how and when it is won. We’ve also got a derby with Wisbech and want to finish as high up as we can and prove we still belong as a force in Step 5.”

On the transfer front, Hayes revealed that winger Aaron Eyett told him that he wanted to leave after Wednesday’s Lincs Senior Trophy loss to Boston Town – who have now put seven days in for him.

He’s also not likely to sign Blackstones striker Lewis Leckie right now, but retains an interest as and when his fitness returns.
