Billiards round-up: Whitewash win sends Holbeach C to the summit

A superb 7-0 success on Monday night fired Holbeach C to the top of the Spalding and District Billiards League standings.

The new table-toppers defeated Pyramid A 7-0 on their own baize, thanks to wins from James Glover (R90), Colin Dodd (R50) and Ben Harding (R60).

Dodd was the star of the show, making breaks of 31 and 22 in his 200-179 success over John Twell (R60).

That result saw them leapfrog Crowland A, who suffered a 4-3 defeat against Long Sutton.

Mick Cooper (O180) was in stellar form in the opening frame, making breaks of 44, 39 and 37 as he defeated Richard Wesley (R70).

Joe Garland (R60) also made a 20 break as he beat Neil Burton (R70) – who made a 26 break of his own – en-route to clinching the win for Sutton.

Richard Walker (R90) did at least see off Adam Barwell (O50) by a healthy margin to secure Crowland three points.

Elsewhere, Consti A beat Consti B 5-2 in an all-club affair.

Jason Rose (R30) was on-song with breaks of 26 and 25 to beat cue ace Mick Johnson 200-41 in frame one, despite the latter making a 32 break.

Pat Bowman (R110) then beat John Keeton (R20) to secure the lion’s share of the points for the A team, rendering Steve Spencer’s (R110) final frame victory as mere consolation for the B side.

Also on winning form were Donington, who saw off Pyramid B 5-2 in Bourne.

Jim Thompson (R50) and Ben Wrigglesworth (R50) got the wins for Donington, although team-mate Mat Turner (R50) sank a 25 break in the final frame.

The best break of the week came from Rob Childs (O250) as his Crowland B side beat Consti C 5-2.

Childs sank a 79 in the opening frame against John Bellerby (R90), while also adding scores of 43, 41, 40 and 37.

Bellerby, to his credit, stuck to his task and made a 20 break as he was beaten 200-188 by the league’s highest handicapped player.
