Bell bags pair of top three finishes to seal Welland Yacht Club’s Munson Cup

Breezy but cold conditions greeted competitors for Sunday’s sailing at the Welland Yacht Club.

Race one was the third round of the Morning points series, which was won by the Laser of Tom Bell.

He was some 15 seconds clear of the Phantom of Paul Burton, with Phil Robertson taking 3rd place.

A special mention must go to junior Emma Agar, who finished the difficult course in sixth place – a position which could have been much higher were it not for the fact she got stuck in a head to wind beat.

The afternoon races saw the culmination of the Munson Cup, with races 5 and 6 taking part.

Although Bell could only manage a third and a second, he still clinched the series by two points from Andy Prior. Third place in the series went to Paul Burton.

Individual race honours went to Burton in race five and Prior in race six.

  • The club is holding its annual open day on May 15 (11.30am-4pm). Everyone is invited to come down and try out sailing, just bring a change of clothes.
