Beeson at double… but Holbeach United drop points again

A Lee Beeson double earned Holbeach United a 2-2 draw at Kempston Rovers on Saturday as the Tigers lost further ground in the UCL Premier Division title race.

In a game delayed for 25 minutes due to heavy traffic on the A1, wing wizard Beeson gave John Chand’s side the lead inside 39 seconds.

But Kempston, who started the game very much in mid-table, levelled through ex-Tiger Ashley Fuller on 11 minutes – and them went ahead when Ekene Amadi (33) struck before the break.

Beeson restored parity with a penalty on 53 minutes, before Jamie Clarke saw an effort cleared off the line and new signing Andrew Tidswell – who completed his move from Spalding United on Saturday morning – missed a late chance at the death.

With leaders AFC Rushden and Diamonds winning 7-1 at Huntingdon Town and second-placed Wisbech Town thumping Long Buckby 5-1 at home, the Tigers are now 12 points off the pace with just three games in hand.

Chand’s side visit Desborough Town on Tuesday night (7.45pm) as they bid to get themselves back into the title mix.

They’ll have to do it without key midfielder Jake Duffy, though. He’s completed a move to Shepshed Dynamo, a transfer confirmed by the Leicestershire club on Saturday morning.

Elsewhere, Moulton Harrox picked up a 4-1 ChromaSport Peterborough League Premier Divison win over Sawtry at Broad Lane to move up to sixth in the standings.

Struggling duo Holbeach United Reserves and Crowland Town both remain in a relegation dogfight after suffering defeats, though.

Omar Joof’s Tigers are 15th, two points above the bottom two, after going down 4-1 at home to Thorney, while Crowland remain bottom after slipping to a 1-0 loss at Stilton United.

It was also a bad day for Pinchbeck United, who saw their hopes of winning the PFA Senior Cup dashed by a 2-1 defeat at Netherton United.
