Manic Street Preachers.

Bank on brill weekend with Manics, Ibiza legends and Simply Red

Manic Street Preachers, Simply Red, Lisa Stansfield and Paul Oakenfold are all among those taking part in three days of musical delight on Peterborough’s Embankment this summer.

Three huge gigs are being put on over three days, starting with the legendary Cafe Mambo bringing the Ibizan vibe to the banks of the River Nene on Friday, June 10.

Serving up the classics are some of the biggest DJs in dance music; Paul Oakenfold, Roger Sanchez, huge special guest Todd Terry, and Mambo resident, Andy Baxter. Tickets are £33.

A spokesman for promoters LPH Concerts said: “The legendary Ibiza brand will bring thousands of dance music fans together for an unforgettable experience under the stars as they relive the massive tunes that provided the soundtrack to generations of Ibiza adventures.”

The following day, Saturday, June 11, Mick Hucknall himself will be on hand with Simply Red playing some of the hits that spawned 60 million album sales.

And there’s brilliant support too from the likes of Grammy and Brit Award nominated vocalist Lisa Stansfield and acclaimed British saxophonist Yolanda Brown.

“Few bands have enjoyed the success and longevity of Simply Red,” a spokesman said. “Their live show is renowned for its high quality with Mick Hucknall long-established as one of the great vocalists of contemporary music.”

The weekend is rounded off with one of Britain’s best bands, The Manic Street Preachers.

Backed by the fantastic band Sea Power (who recently ditched the ‘British’ first part of their name), it’s set to be a night of top music.

A spokesman said: “Their first album ‘Generation Terrorists’ released in February 1992 was a hugely ambitious debut, establishing them as unique artists, combining classic rock riffs with the attitude of pop and punk and lyrically setting themselves head and shoulders above their contemporaries.

“Throughout the years they have collected fans from all over the world, maturing and changing musically whilst always keeping the classic Manics sound.”
