South Holland District Council has been awarded £150,000 to provide accessible toilet facilities in the area.
The money has been allocated as part of the Changing Places Fund released by the government.
The South and East Lincolnshire Councils partnership has been awarded a total of £660,000 under the scheme.
South Holland will create three new facilities, Boston will have four, while East Lindsey could have up to eight.
Government data shows that around 250,000 severely disabled people do not have access to public toilets that facilitate their needs.
In South Holland one will go at Ayscoughfee, another will be part of improvement works at the Sheep Market and another will go into Holbeach.
The Changing Place Toilets will be more accessible than the standard facilities as they will also include an adult changing bench and hoist as well as extra space for carers.
Work on the scheme to increase the number of such facilities has been undertaken in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy and the consortium will be assisting the three councils on the project.
“This is excellent news for residents across South Holland, Boston and East Lindsey as it will create a more accessible space.
“Accessible spaces should always be a priority across the borough and districts and we are keen to facilitate this as much as possible. Toilets are a necessity and the Changing Place Toilets will allow more space for carers and help residents with disabilities to access facilities which are built with them in mind,” said a joint statement from the councils.
According to a map on the official Changing Places website, there is not a single accessible adult changing toilet facility in South Holland, the nearest is at Wisbech Tesco or Deepings Leisure Centre.
