Apprenticeships work for Spalding business

A Spalding SME which specialises in selling jigsaw puzzle accessories, has boosted its team by recruiting another apprentice.

Jigthings, which launched ten years ago in Spalding, took the decision after starting a complementary business called Education Quizzes.

Owner of the Wragg Marsh firm Colin King wanted to invest more in the customer service it offered and took on Jack Merritt on a second apprenticeship arranged by Lincolnshire Chamber of Commerce.

Two years ago, Shirley Bates, the chamber’s apprenticeship specialist, sifted through applications and held first-stage interviews, and recommended Callum Cole. Now he will be mentoring Jack.

Colin said: “We took Callum on almost straight away. He’s become a real asset to the firm, helping with answering the phone, replying to customer queries and doing important admin tasks.
“We are very pleased with his progress, and he’s brought a lot of fresh knowledge and enthusiasm to the team.”

Shirley said: “It’s been a real pleasure working with Colin and seeing Callum grow into the role.
“This is what the Chamber’s apprenticeship scheme was intended for, and its very rewarding to see it benefiting a Lincolnshire business.”
