Another six-y showing from Pinchbeck United as Dunn praises ‘deadly’ finishing

Pleased player/boss Ian Dunn praised Pinchbeck United’s cutting edge as his side won 6-0 for the second week on the spin.

Pinchbeck put Leverington Sports to the sword at Knight Street on Saturday as they progressed to the next round of the ChromaSport PDFL’s PFA Senior Cup.

Top scorer Ollie Maltby took his tally for the season to 16 in 11 games with a hat-trick (30, 43 and 55), while Tony Edwards (pen 39), Tom Panton (46) and Liam Ogden (84) also got in on the act.

Edwards was even able to miss a penalty, while new keeper Ricky Lovelace looked very solid on his latest debut for the club.

It’s now eight wins on the bounce for the Knights in all competitions for Dunn’s side, who have also scored 47 goals in 13 games this season.

After a relatively slow start to the campaign, the player/boss admits that his side are now getting close to top form.

He said: “For 30 minutes on Saturday it wasn’t easy. But once we got that first goal it was a different game.

“They looked to be physical and rough us up a little, but we got the ball down and played some really good stuff.

“To be fair, we have been known as a side that plays a lot of long balls.

“But we played some great intricate stuff, including one-twos in and around the box, and our finishing was lethal.

“It’s no coincidence that we’ve been scoring a lot of goals, we’ve been working hard on that in training.

“It’s really paying dividends as we look deadly at times.

“The pitch is really being looked after too, so that’s helping us play some good stuff.

“After such a slow start, we’re now in full flow and I’m happy with how things are looking.”

Pinchbeck return to PDFL Premier Division action this Saturday as they host lowly Uppingham Town (2pm).

Kofi Ross is still missing after scans revealed he broke a bone his ankle following a tackle from Danny Maddison in the 2-1 win over Moulton Harrox earlier this month.

Versatile defender Brad Murrell is also available again, leaving Dunn with plenty of selection problems ahead of Saturday’s game.

He added: “Uppingham have obviously struggled a bit lately and have been conceding a lot of goals.

“We’ll take nothing for granted, but if we can play like we have been doing I’d expect us to keep on picking up wins.”

Pinchbeck: Lovelace, Edwards, Gardner, Shipley, Smith, Brooks, Lawe, Bishop, Maltby, Panton, Ogden. Subs used: Dunn, Eyes, Francis.

Attendance: 40.

Saturday: Pinchbeck United v Uppingham Town (2pm).
