‘Anger’ over police response

A Sutton Bridge woman says she’s been left frustrated at what she says is a lack of police action following an alleged assault of her and her pet dog.

Janet Lowe (69) says she knows the person who she claims kicked the pet and punched her on May 21 but Lincolnshire Police have been slow in doing anything.

The police though say they’ve carried out a ‘robust enquiry’ that is ongoing.

Janet says she contacted The Voice after reading an article about the police targeting violence against women.

“It appears the police come out with the right words but in my experience they do nothing when violence against a woman is reported,” she said.

“I have complained about the delays and lack of urgency (or even interest) in dealing with the assault of a 69-year-old woman in her own local park but am merely told that the officer is on leave/called to more urgent cases/is following procedure.

“I just feel very angry.

“What sort of person goes around kicking a dog?

“I’m 70 in three months and at this stage in my life I don’t need it.

“It’s sheer frustration. I had a witness with me and we were able to tell the police who the person was but they haven’t done anything.

“The police are not interested in us in the villages right at the end of Lincolnshire.”

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “We are investigating a report of an assault where a woman reported that she was punched in the arm and her dog was kicked by a man in Curlew Centre in Sutton Bridge at around 12.30pm on May 21.

“This led to a robust enquiry by officers which has included taking witness statements, house-to-house enquiries, walking through the route the victim took, checking CCTV in the local area and conducting interviews.

“We continue to progress the investigation, and are updating the victim on progress.”
