UPDATE: Three injured in refuse lorry accident released from hospital

FRIDAY, SEPT 25: Three council workers injured in a refuse lorry accident have been released from hospital.

A spokesperson for South Holland District Council said: “Following the serious incident on Wednesday involving three staff, we are delighted to report all three involved have been released from hospital and are recovering. We wish them all the very best with their recoveries and will continue to support them in their return to work.”

 

WEDNESDAY 2.30pm: South Holland District Council has confirmed that three staff members were injured during a refuse lorry accident this morning.

One suffered serious injuries and was flown to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridgeshire.

The cause of the accident in Nene Terrace, Crowland, has yet to be established.

A district council spokesman said: “Our immediate thoughts are with those involved and their families at this difficult time.

“We can confirm there were three staff in the vehicle at the time of the incident.  Two received minor injuries and one, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital by air ambulance. We wish them all well and will support them where we can.

“At this time the cause of the incident is unknown but we are supporting the emergency services in their on-going investigations.”

 

WEDNESDAY 11.30AM: Emergency services are currently at the scene of an accident in Crowland involving a council refuse collection lorry.

The incident on the B1040 Nene Terrace was reported at 10.25am.

Medics from the air ambulance are treating a casualty. Road closures are in place and drivers are asked to follow diversions.

A South Holland District Council spokesman said: “We are aware of the incident this morning involving a refuse vehicle in Nene Terrace, Crowland.

“Council officers are currently at the scene supporting the emergency services.”
