250 parking tickets handed out in South Holland each month

An average of 250 parking tickets have been issued each month in South Holland as drivers continue to ignore restrictions.

Now the county-wide parking enforcement scheme is set to expand – with a further six “street wardens” being taken on to ensure villages can be covered more frequently.

Figures show that 2,542 parking enforcement notices were handed out in South Holland between April 1, 2014 and January 31, 2015.

Although the figures are not broken down into districts, they show that the majority of tickets across Lincolnshire were for parking in restricted streets, where motorists ignored yellow lines.

Other common infringements included exceeding time limits for parking spaces and parking incorrectly within bays.

Across the county, a total of 29,488 parking enforcement notices have been issued, with peaks in July and August.

The figures will be presented to Lincolnshire County Council Highways and Transport Scrutiny Committee, which meets on Monday.

Members will be told that work with contractors to improve efficiencies and reduce costs means the service is expecting a surplus of around £100,000 over and above the operating costs for the 2014/2015 financial year.

A report to the committee says: “By utilising more efficient travel plans, detailed patrol routes coupled with asystemic review of manpower resources and patrol requirements, the council has been able to deliver more patrol hours and increased visits to all areas of the county without incurring extra costs.”

The enforcement service currently employs 24 enforcement officers, easily identifiable as they carry out their duties by their bright green coats, as well as four supervisors, one manager and two office staff.

The number of enforcement officers is to be increased to 30 as “a result of continued demand from the public relating to ongoing inconsiderate parking issues in their communities.”

The report to the committee also shows how many individual visits have been made to towns and villages across Lincolnshire by enforcement officers since April 1 last year.

This includes:

  • Sutton Bridge – 12 visits
  • Spalding – 272
  • Pinchbeck – 17
  • Moulton – 8
  • Long Sutton – 20
  • Holbeach – 39
  • Gosberton – 44
  • Donington – 11
  • Crowland – 8
