21-point haul at Oulton Park sees Ben Wilson climb standings

Ben Wilson climbed up to eighth in the Motorpoint British Supersport Championship standings after two solid finishes at Oulton Park over the weekend.

The Kirton racer steered his Gearlink Kawasaki to sixth and fifth place in the two outings at the Cheshire circuit, giving him a cool 21-point haul.

Qualifying went well for the Lincolnshire ace, who was to begin Saturday’s sprint race from the middle of the third row.

As the 12-lap affair got under way, Wilson settled into seventh place and was just hanging off the back of the leading six bikes.

But as the race wore on he began to lose touch with the front runners and, on the penultimate lap, was circulating some five seconds behind them.

On the final lap Kyle Ryde crashed, which promoted Wilson to sixth and he crossed the finish to bag ten points.

Starting the feature race from the second row, Wilson got away to a quick start and was fourth as they rounded Hall Bend for the first time.

However, he could not hold his position and was relegated to sixth at the end of the first lap.

He remained in sixth place throughout the race, but once again dropped back from the leading group as they upped the pace.

Wilson looked to have sixth in the bag, but the leader crashed on the run to the chequered flag which gifted him fifth place and 11 more points.

”I really like the Oulton Park circuit,” said Wilson. “It’s a real rider’s track and suits me down to the ground.

“I have made a few steps forward with the Kawasaki this weekend and I was not too far away from the front runners.

“Let’s hope we can carry this form over to Assen.”

Now on 124 points, Wilson he will be seeking two good results in the next round at Assen (Holland) over the weekend of September 18-20 to improve his position.
