Vote for new name for surgery

You have until Saturday to vote on seven potential new names for the GP surgery that’s based at the Johnson Hospital.

What’s currently known as the Johnson GP Centre was set up at the Johnson Hospital for the patients of Pennygate Health Centre which closed last September after being rated ‘inadequate’ by the Care Quality Commission.

Health officials say they’re still looking to create a new surgery in the west of Spalding, but they want a new name for the GP surgery so it’s not confused with the hospital that houses it.

Following requests for public suggestions 40 new names were put forward of which eight have been shortlisted and a public vote is currently taking place online.

The options for the name of the new surgery are:

  • West Hope Health Surgery
  • The Spalding Surgery
  • South Holland GP Surgery
  • Harvest GP Surgery
  • Coronation GP Surgery
  • Sunshine Medical Centre
  • Apeldoorn Medical Centre.

You can vote for your favourite name online here.

You can also email your vote to public.engagement@southlincolnshireccc.nhs.uk or visit the Johnson GP Centre and use one of the forms available.

“We were delighted with the number of suggested names we received, which covered a very wide range of themes,” comments Sarah Brinkworth, Head of Commissioning and Contracting, South Lincolnshire CCG. “We have narrowed these down to seven and we would now like people to vote for their favourite – the name that receives most votes will be the new name for the Johnson GP Centre.

“We will announce the winning name publicly in September and the person who originally suggested the name prior to it being shortlisted will be contacted and asked if they would like to take part in a photo opportunity/naming ceremony to take place at the practice on October, 1”.

Having recently awarded a new Alternative Provider Medical Contract (APMS) to Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) for the provision of primary care/GP services at the Johnson GP Centre, which takes effect from 1 October 2019, the CCG says its aspiration remains to ultimately have a practice based on the west side of Spalding.

“The new name for the Johnson GP Centre will take effect from October 1 in line with the new APMS contract, and renaming the practice will allow us to differentiate it from the Johnson Community Hospital where it is currently situated,” adds Sarah. “We hope that local people will once again get involved and vote for their favourite name.”
