Spalding’s South Holland Centre has just launched its autumn programme and there’s something to suit all tastes.

On Saturday, the Act II Theatre Company takes to the stage with an amateur production of the Alan Bennett play The History Boys.

Voted the nation’s favourite play in a recent poll, Alan Bennett’s The History Boys tells the story of a group of intelligent, wise-cracking teenagers studying for their Oxbridge entrance exams in the 1980s under the tutelage of three contrasting teachers and watched over by a league table chasing headmaster.

The show, which starts at 7.30pm, is a heady blend of sex, history and creative spirit (age guidance – 15 due to strong language).
Tickets cost £9.50 (£8 concessions).

Fans of ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent won’t want to miss Steve Hewlett and friends, appearing at the centre on Friday, September 12 at 7.30pm.

Ventriloquist Steve (pictured right) shot to fame on 2013’s Britain’s Got Talent, winning over the public vote to become the Wild Card Finalist in the show.

Steve and his cast of zany hilarious characters, along with international award winning illusionist Richard Griffin, are presently touring with his “thinking inside the box” show.

They are to be joined by comedy vocalist Christopher Gee and host and compere Tucker.

No doubt Arthur Lager will have plenty to say!

The show is around three hours and 30 minutes long and may feature some adult content. Tickets cost £19.

The Saltmine Theatre Company presents John Newton – Amazing on Saturday, September 13, at 7.30pm.

Press-ganged into the navy at 19, flogged for desertion miles from the girl he loves, John Newton feels he has nothing to live for.

Making his way into the harsh world of the 18th century transatlantic slave trade, he climbs up through the ranks to slave ship captain.

Then one stormy night, with his ship going down, he faces certain death…

A powerfully moving story of slavery and freedom and the remarkable power of love and grace to transform a life.

The show is two hours long and is suitable for people over the age of 12. Tickets are £10 (£8 concessions).

Tickets for all three shows are available from 01775 764777.
